Bike Month Ride – May 20, 2017

We celebrated National Bike Month with a community bicycle ride, potluck brunch and presentation! Lauren Armstrong, Executive Director of the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) provided an informal presentation with opportunities for bicyclists to ask questions and provide input about bicycle-related transportation on Maui. We also heard from HEAL Coordinator, Sonya Niess! Two route options were available to choose from, a longer ride to Wailuku led by Tom Bolz and Ken Moore, and a family ride on the North Shore Greenway led by Kelli Lundgren and Greg Mebel.

Ride of Silence – May 27, 2017

The Memorial Ride of Silence is a worldwide event to honor bicyclists who have been killed or injured while riding. The 13-mile ride took place on the Mokulele Bike Path and was led by Kelli Lundgren and Daniel Rezac. Participants dressed in white clothing and rode in silence with their headlights and taillights on to honor those bicyclists. After the ride, the group gathered for socializing and refreshments provided by Robin Hagen.

Women’s Ride – June 17, 2017

The Maui Women’s Ride was intended to encourage women (and men) with any level of experience to bike ride! Participants chose among two route options leaving from Polo Beach, a 3.5 mile route led by Kelli Lundgren and a 10 mile route led by Thomas Bolz. There was a great turnout and we saw lots of new faces!

Testimonial –

“Thank you Maui Bicycling League. Saturday June 17th was a great experience. Recently my wife (Shirley) and I joined the League because my wife just purchased an electric assist bike so that she could get out and do some rides around Maui. This was our first time meeting the group and the whole experience was fantastic! Before the ride we received an email with detailed information on where to meeting and the type of ride to expect. Upon arriving we were greeted right away and felt very welcomed. The event was well planed and the ride left right on time with leader (Tom) who set a comfortable pace for the group as outlined in the email. It was a beautiful area to ride and the weather was cloudy so it wasn’t too warm and we had just a few drops of rain before turning around. The reason my wife and I join the league was to discover new safe areas to ride and today’s event provided that and so much more. After the ride was over there were refreshments and snacks, and while visiting with other riders we did learn about some other areas that we could safely go ride here on Maui. Looking forward to the next ride and wishing it was a monthly event because it was so much fun!”
