Saturday, Aug 6th–Join one of three Upcountry group rides!

Aloha MBL members and supporters,

kula viewThe Maui Bicycling League (MBL) will be leading three upcountry group rides for bicyclists on Saturday, August 6th, 2016, all starting at 8am.  The rides will vary from advanced beginner to experienced.

We will meet at Rice Park on Kula Highway, 5.8 miles South of Pukalani Longs Drugs, and park alongside Kula Highway (37).

Please arrive no later than 7:45am, as the rides start promptly at 8:00am. Ride leaders from the Maui Bicycling League will do a brief ride orientation prior to departure and will lead and trail each group. These are no-drop rides meaning no one is left behind.

All riders must wear a properly fitting helmet, bring drinking water, and no ear buds are allowed. All rides will be on the road shoulder (varying widths) and with motor vehicles. Not recommended for children under 16. Please wear bright clothing and use a tail light if you have one.

All three rides will depart from Rice Park at 8:00am, but when each ride returns is hard to tell, as it depends on pace and length of break. Riders should expect to be back at the vehicles at different times.

1) Cruise: Ride from Rice Park to Grandma’s Coffee House and back, with a break at Grandma’s. This is an Advanced Beginner level ride of six miles round-trip, at a fairly leisurely pace. Rolling hills.

2) Holoholo: Ride at a relaxed pace and enjoy the scenery. We leave from Rice Park and ride to the end of Thompson Rd, take a swing up to Kula Hospital, stop at Grandma’s for a break, then back to Rice Park. This Intermediate level ride is approx. 10 miles round-trip, with more rolling hills.

3) Get’em Brah!: Riders depart from Rice Park and ride to Ulupalakua Ranch Store and back. This is a moderately intense ride for Upper Intermediate, experienced riders. The section of road South of Keokea has no shoulder, but not much traffic either. The road drops about 1,200 ft. to Ulupalakua, so there is a climb on the trip back. Total ride distance is approx. 18 miles.
